Treating our Tummies and Cleansing our Palates with Hauser Broth

 Today we continue our “inner feast” with a cup of perfection to excite all of our cells and synapses.  This broth is two–fold.

  It can be used between meals to suppress appetite, and is also a great substitute for getting the needed vitamins and minerals into our bodies when we are not eating enough vegetables.  I actually triple the recipe to be used all week, and place in glass canning jars to reheat as needed.  You can also use it as a soup or gravy base, and to reheat your leftovers.  All food philosophies can benefit from this delightful drink.  It really makes you feel like you gave yourself the best present ever.  One cup = < 5 calories and is loaded with vitamins and minerals.  The most important point when making the broth is: DO NOT allow the broth to boil and spoil all the wonderful vitamins and minerals.  You will heat the ingredients to a simmer and simmer for 20 minutes.  When re-heating in a microwave, I found 8 oz. of the cold broth will take 1 minute for a without over-heating or bringing it to a boil.  I encourage you to make the effort this weekend and give it a try.  Drink a cup between meals when “hunger” strikes, or before dinner and cleanse your palate.  It satisfies cravings and can help control your appetite.  Come back on Monday and we will continue our year journey learning more about intelligent eating and using our God given eyes and brains to sort through the “gunk” out there.  Enjoy your weekend and we will visit on Monday.

 Purchase the ingredients to make Hauser Broth and “party on the inside” this weekend.

Hauser Broth

1-quart cold water

1 cup shredded carrots

1 cup shredded celery

½ cup chopped spinach

1 tablespoon chopped parsley (I use 2 T)

1 tsp. Mrs. Dash seasoning or 1 tsp. vegetable bouillon.


Bring to a simmer (DO NOT BOIL) for 20 minutes.

Strain broth from vegetables and add seasoning.  

Store broth in glass containers with lids (I use canning jars for jelly).

Can use vegetables for something else.  We feed it to our chickens.

Serving size = 8 oz. Calories =  < 5

Servings per batch = 4
