House Cleaning: The Living Room

Today is Monday, January 13th

The topic or question of the day is:

 House Cleaning: The Living Room

Have you ever seen a sign hanging in someone’s home that lists ‘House Rules’?  I have one in my own house.  One of the rules says, if you mess it up, clean it up.  Some rooms in my house that need cleaning are the living room, bathroom, bedroom, closet, and the Food Cookery (kitchen).

Today is Monday, the day we used to be told to “wash the clothes”♪ ♫, but I am going to start in the living room where my free time is spent, if I am not outside “playing”.  Most living rooms are where comfortable furniture, televisions and relaxation ensue.  If we spend too much time there, watching TV and sitting in comfy chairs, Benjamin Franklin and Gary North would remind us that “Time is money” and “Calories are money.”   Sometimes work needs to be done, things need to be fixed, or our body needs to exercise if we have been sitting all day.  These breaks in “sedentary time” are needed and appreciated by our muscles.  Remember, a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come upon you like a robber and want like an armed man (Proverbs 6:10).

Watching too much TV can also lead to overeating or craving foods because commercial programming entice us to eat these foods.  When Gary North says that ‘calories are money’ he makes 3 good statements:

  1. You will pay more for groceries by giving into your desires.
  2. You will pay more for medications and spend more money and time visiting doctor offices to care for the problems you acquire from excess calories.
  3. You will pay more for missed opportunities.

I encourage you to re-think your living room, how you are spending your time, and what changes you can make to improve your time-calories and money expenditure.  Tomorrow we will clean the bathroom (our digestive tract/sewage system), discussing elimination and intelligent eating.
